ALKALOID’S NEW MICROBIOLOGICAL QUALITY CONTROL LABORATORY COMMISSIONED DURING OFFICIAL GOVERNMENT DELEGATION VISIT

The primary purpose of the Microbiological Quality Control Laboratory – Alkaloid AD’s latest €3.1 million investment – is to deliver the highest standards of microbiological quality control across raw materials, primary packaging, intermediates, and finished products.

Spanning nearly 700 square meters, the laboratory conducts a wide range of activities, including environmental and surface monitoring, monitoring of the production and distribution of purified pharmaceutical water systems, compressed air monitoring, verification of process equipment cleaning, sterility testing, microorganism identification, antimicrobial efficacy testing, validation of disinfectant effectiveness, and other analyses fully aligned with regulatory requirements. Alkaloid’s latest investment was commissioned during an official visit by a government delegation headed by Prime Minister Prof. Dr. Hristijan Mickoski, alongside Dr. Azir Aliu, Minister of Health, and Mr. Sasho Klekovski, Director of the Health Insurance Fund.

“This Microbiological Quality Control Laboratory establishes Macedonia as a regional leader in pharmaceutical microbiology and broader pharmaceutical quality control. The project was fully self-funded and executed using Alkaloid AD’s own resources and in-house expertise. The investment of approximately €3.1 million and its realization over nearly two years clearly reflect our vision, knowledge, and long-term commitment to top-tier quality,” said Zhivko Mukaetov, CEO and President of the Management Board of Alkaloid AD Skopje.

“It is a great honor and pleasure for me that today at Alkaloid we witnessed practices on par with those of the world’s most advanced pharmaceutical industries. We are proud that they are Macedonian. I would like to thank the Chief Executive Officer and all employees who provided us with expert insight into the company’s wide range of activities today, and I can state with satisfaction that more than 3,000 employees are building their future at Alkaloid. The company’s export portfolio, which accounts for more than two-thirds of its total production, contributes to the country’s economic performance, supporting GDP growth and industrial production. As a Government, we will always support successful Macedonian stories, since there is no better promotion for a country than a success story like this beyond its borders,” stated the Prime Minister, Prof. Dr. Hristijan Mickoski.

The new Microbiological Quality Control Laboratory at Alkaloid AD Skopje has the capacity to perform approximately 20,000 various microbiological analyses annually and employs a team of 21 highly qualified professionals. The Quality Control Department maintains strategic responsibility for compliance with international pharmaceutical regulatory standards and is headed by Dr. Gjorgi Petrushevski, Doctor of Chemical Sciences, who brings substantial scientific credentials (33 publications in impact factor international journals and over 500 citations) along with expertise in pharmaceutical chemistry and pharmaceutical quality systems.
